We live in an era in which 1.8 billion people have a very poor standard home or no home at all, according to United Nations’ data. Many countries alone need 300.000 new homes per year. Yet our planet is in a global warming situation, triggered by irresponsible industries and consumption. This cannot go on like before. We need to think, talk and act sustainably to achieve Global Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

In particular, Sustainable Buildings and Construction of One Planet Network is a programme that Kodasema is a member of. We want to raise awareness about sustainably created, built, maintained and used buildings and their environments. Together, we can create housing in a resource efficient, low carbon and climate resilient manner.

In 2015, world leaders made a promise to their people. They signed up to a plan for home – the Sustainable Development Goals. If achieved, these 17 Global Goals will end poverty, fix inequality and tackle climate change by 2030.

A third of the way through with ten years to go, this must be the year we get the Goals back on track. We need a new collective push for action; a renewed Global Goals effort for people and planet jointly.

Modular housing allows for a more efficient production process, flexibility for quickly housing new populations at lower cost. Today’s prefabricated housing has graduated to high design. Kodasema contributes to #11 and 12 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

#11 Sustainable Cities & Communities – The volume of construction waste generated worldwide every year, will nearly double to 2.2. billion tons by the year 2025. Prefabricated housing solutions contribute to decreasing the waste and pollution in cities.

#12 Responsible Consumption & Production – The basic objectives of Sustainable Design is to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments.
